If you want your business to be successful, follow these simple steps
This one seems simple right? if you want to run a successful business you must know what you do and be the best at it. Another way to look at it is be the best on the tools.
When I use the term the best, I use it in an abstract way. For me, being the best means not only being capable of doing the work, but also being willing to constantly learn and evolve at your work in order to continue being capable of doing the work. It’s not enough just to be good at it because as times change how you do your work will change, so you must be willing to change with your work.
Another option in this case if you have the funds behind you is to go out and hire the BEST person to do what you’re trying to achieve. This is something often used by the most successful entrepreneurs out there. They have the idea, but not necessarily the skill set for that idea, so they go and find the person who does and employ them, but for this to be successful, the next step MUST be followed.
This is where the entrepreneur shines, because basically the entrepreneur is the deal maker. Hustling involves doing WHATEVER needs to be done to see your business grow. If that means working 18 hours a day 7 days a week then you work 18 hours a day 7 days a week. If that means getting out there networking, cold calling or whatever marketing or sales activity needs to get done to see your business thrive then you do it! You do it and LOVE it, because if you don’t love the hustle then you won’t have a successful business.
There is a trick to making sure you LOVE the hustle. Whatever it is that you do, your reason for it needs to be bigger then yourself. It’s as simple as that. Those people that create successful businesses do so because they have a reason that is bigger then their own. It’s called purpose and passion and without it you won’t have a successful business. You MUST get clear on what you want to achieve in your business, you must have a goal that will get you out of bed every morning.
The Hustle is probably the most important tool to your success, because the Hustle is what makes you great! It’s the Hustle that leaves the impression, it’s the Hustle that people remember.
How can you make good decisions for your business if you don’t understand the numbers that drive them? Effectively NUMBERS MEAN EVERYTHING! And while you don’t need to be the master of the numbers, you at least need to understand your numbers and understand what they mean in order to make decisions in your business that will see it grow.
This is where a good accountant and bookkeeper are crucial in your business, because they’re the number experts. I have NEVER heard of a business that succeeded without a good accountant behind the scenes making sure the numbers tell a story of the past, present and future of the business.
They say a picture paints a thousand words, and this is 100% true, and you know what? For a good accountant, the numbers are the picture that tells a story.
All these tools are related to one another, and only having one in your arsenal is not enough if you want to succeed. If you’re great on the tools, make sure you can hustle so that you build a reputation and credibility for being great on the tools. If you’re hustling, make sure you understand the numbers that help your business grow so that way you know how to direct your hustle as well as how to direct your business.
Most businesses start because the person starting them is good at what they do and they’re sick of doing it for somebody else, which is great! Without appreciating the importance of these remaining steps, the business is inevitably doomed to fail. You wonder why the failure rate of small business is over 50% in the first 5 years and another 50% fail 5 years after that? I believe it’s simply because they’re not following this process.
